Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect at my child's first pre-team meet?

At Champion, we participate in 3-4 fun meets for our pre-team gymnasts.  These meets are designed to be fun and educational for the gymnast and her family.  She will compete compulsory routines on each event; vault, bars, beam, and floor.  The coaching staff will determine the best compulsory routine to highlight her skills within the Levels 1-4 compulsory routines.  The girls are not given scores at this level, but instead colored ribbons after competition on each event.

What type of uniform does my daughter need to compete?

Our pre-team gymnasts will need a black Champion leo, sweatshirt, and specific gym bag to bring with her to all competitions.  The rough cost for these items is $80.  Additionally, she will need a pair of black legging or yoga pants.  Our Level 4 gymnasts will need the black Champion leo, a team warm up, and gym bag.  Our level 5-10 gymnasts will need the silver and green team leo, warm up, and gym bag. When will my child move up to the next level?

In a healthy coaching environment children develop strength, skills, and strong character values.  If pushed too fast the technique will not be properly achieved and foundational errors are created in the skills and are reflected in the scores.  The coaching staff at Champion prides itself on teaching strong foundation and technique to our gymnasts from the very beginning of their training.  Like all sports, there is no specific timeline for a child to move to the next level.  Our staff works hard to give your child proper development in a fun and safe environment.

When will my child need grips?

At Champion we begin to get grips for our gymnasts when they begin giant work generally during their second year of Level 5.  We have found that the buckle grips work best for our girls and can be found here.  Please talk with your coaches before purchasing grips for your daughter.
